African Festival

Publication date: 2010-05-01

from 20 to 25 May 2010

Photo by Patrycja CzarnikThis is already the fourth edition of an event which was brought into being on the initiative of the Society for African Affairs at the Jagiellonian University. This year’s festival lasting from 20 to 25 May  will bear the motto: Senses. Inspirations. Rhythms. So what have the organisers prepared for us? Our senses will certainly be aroused by the cuisine: thanks to African specialists it will be possible to sample dishes and also to learn the secrets of their preparation. Or maybe the dancing will inspire us? In the programme are demonstrations (including belly dancing), but also workshops. As far as rhythms are concerned, both those seeking new sounds and fans of African music will be happy about the performances by Czech group Camara and the local Tamtamitutu. Also featured are film screenings connected to this continent, slide shows, games for kids and even… a football match: Africa vs. The Rest of the World. Phew, it’s hot! (AJ)
